Saturn Return: Ages, Dates and What It Means

Saturn takes about 29.5 years to go once around the zodiac. When it comes back to the exact place it occupied when you were born, that's your Saturn return. The first, in your late twenties, is one of the most talked-about passages in astrology.

When it happens

Most people have their first Saturn return between about 27 and 30, a second around 57 to 60, and a third, for some, around 86 to 89. Because Saturn appears to go backwards for several months each year, it often crosses your natal Saturn degree up to three times over roughly a year.

Who is in it now

Calculated with the astronomy library Soul Atlas uses, Saturn was in Aries from 7 April 1996, briefly returned to Taurus between June and October 1998, and left Aries for good on 1 March 1999. It re-entered Aries in 2025 and settled there on 14 February 2026, staying until 13 April 2028.

So if you were born roughly between April 1996 and early 1999 with Saturn in Aries, your first Saturn return falls in 2025–2028. Your exact dates depend on your natal Saturn degree.

What the tradition reads in it

Saturn is the planet of structure, responsibility, time and maturity. Its return is often described as a reckoning with adulthood: what you've built, what isn't working, and what you're ready to commit to. Many people describe changes in work, relationships or where they live around this time, and many experience it more quietly.

It's not a prediction of crisis. Astrologers usually frame it as Saturn checking the foundations.

How to find yours

Look up your natal Saturn sign and degree in your chart. When transiting Saturn reaches that same degree, that's the exact return. The house your Saturn sits in suggests which area of life the tradition associates with the return.

Common questions

At what age is the Saturn return?
The first is usually between about 27 and 30, the second around 57 to 60.
How long does a Saturn return last?
The exact return can repeat over about a year because of retrogrades; many astrologers speak of a two-to-three-year season around it.
Is the Saturn return bad?
Traditionally it's demanding, but it's associated with maturity and lasting structure. It doesn't predict specific events.
Do I need a birth time?
For Saturn's sign and degree, a date is usually enough. For its house, you need a birth time.
