Finding your Mars sign

Mars usually spends about six to seven weeks in a sign, and much longer around its retrograde, which happens roughly every two years. Your birth date normally gives your Mars sign; its house needs a birth time.

Aries (Mars's own sign): fast, direct, competitive.
Taurus: slow to start, determined, persistent.
Gemini: quick, verbal, many projects at once.
Cancer: protective, indirect, driven by feeling.
Leo: proud, bold, wants recognition.
Virgo: precise, practical, works through detail.
Libra: diplomatic, acts through others, dislikes conflict.
Scorpio (Mars's traditional sign): intense, strategic, persistent.
Sagittarius: adventurous, outspoken, idealistic.
Capricorn (exaltation): disciplined, ambitious, strategic.
Aquarius: principled, independent, acts for a cause.
Pisces: intuitive, flowing, motivated by compassion.

Mars in love

Venus describes what attracts you; Mars describes how you pursue it. Astrologers read both together for a fuller picture of desire and relationship style, alongside the 7th house.

Mars and work

Mars also shows how you work and compete. A Mars in the 10th house or near the Midheaven is traditionally read as strong ambition. That's why Mars appears in the Career and Money Reports.
