Human Design Strategy for Each of the Five Types

In Human Design, your type comes with a strategy: a simple way of engaging with life that the system says reduces resistance. It's often the first practical thing people take from their chart.

The five strategies

  • Generator: to respond. Wait for something outside you to respond to, and trust the gut.
  • Manifesting Generator: to respond, then inform. Respond, then tell those affected before acting.
  • Manifestor: to inform. Initiate, but tell people what you're about to do.
  • Projector: wait for the invitation, especially for big things like work and relationships.
  • Reflector: wait a lunar cycle (about 28 days) before major decisions.

Signature and not-self themes

Each type also has a signature (a feeling that you're on track) and a not-self theme (a signal you've drifted). Generators: satisfaction and frustration. Manifesting Generators: satisfaction and frustration, often with anger. Manifestors: peace and anger. Projectors: success and bitterness. Reflectors: surprise and disappointment.

Strategy and authority

Strategy is how you engage; authority is how you decide. A Generator with Emotional authority, for example, waits for something to respond to and then lets the emotional wave settle before committing. Human Design suggests using both together.

Trying it gently

Human Design describes strategy as an experiment rather than a rule. Many people try it with small daily choices first and notice what changes. It's a reflective framework, not a scientific model of personality.

Common questions

What is my Human Design strategy?
It follows from your type. Calculate your chart to see your type, strategy and authority.
What does 'wait to respond' mean?
Letting life bring something to you (a question, an offer, a situation) and noticing your gut reaction, instead of starting from a mental plan.
Is strategy the same as authority?
No. Strategy is how you engage with opportunities; authority is your decision-making process.
Can I find my strategy without a birth time?
Not reliably. Type depends on exact positions, so a birth time is needed.
