What retrograde means
Mercury doesn't actually reverse. As the faster inner planet overtakes Earth on its orbit, it appears to drift backwards against the stars for a few weeks, an optical effect of our moving viewpoint.
Astrology traditionally reads these periods as times to review, revise and reconnect: the 're-' words. The popular idea that everything will break is a modern exaggeration. There's no evidence it causes technology failures.
