Eclipses 2027: Dates, Signs and Where to See Them

2027 has five eclipses: two solar and three lunar. The headline is the total solar eclipse of 2 August, one of the longest of the century over land. Here are the dates and zodiac positions, calculated with the astronomy library Soul Atlas uses.

The 2027 eclipses (UTC)

  • 6 February, about 16:00: annular solar eclipse at 18° Aquarius.
  • 20 February, about 23:10: penumbral lunar eclipse at 2° Virgo.
  • 18 July, about 16:00: penumbral lunar eclipse at 26° Capricorn (very slight).
  • 2 August, about 10:05: total solar eclipse at 10° Leo.
  • 17 August, about 07:15: penumbral lunar eclipse at 24° Aquarius.

Where to see them

The 6 February annular eclipse, a 'ring of fire', tracks across southern South America and the South Atlantic towards West Africa. The 2 August total eclipse crosses southern Spain, North Africa and the Middle East; near Luxor in Egypt totality lasts over six minutes. Penumbral lunar eclipses only dim the Moon slightly, and many people don't notice them.

Never look at a solar eclipse without certified eclipse glasses or a proper solar filter, except during the brief total phase.

What the tradition says

Astrology has long treated eclipses as turning points: solar eclipses as beginnings, lunar eclipses as culminations. The 2027 eclipses fall mostly on the Leo–Aquarius axis, which the tradition associates with the balance between personal expression (Leo) and community and the collective (Aquarius).

Astronomers predict eclipses precisely; their meaning is a matter of tradition, not prediction.

In your chart

Look at the houses Leo and Aquarius occupy in your chart. Planets around 10° to 24° of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus or Scorpio make the 2027 eclipses more personal in traditional terms.
