Master Numbers 11, 22 and 33 in Numerology

Most numerology numbers are reduced to a single digit. Three are traditionally left as they are: 11, 22 and 33. They're called master numbers and are read as heightened versions of 2, 4 and 6.

When a number stays a master number

When adding digits produces 11, 22 or 33, numerologists stop and keep it. So a Life Path total of 29 becomes 2 + 9 = 11 and stays 11. A total of 38 gives 3 + 8 = 11 too.

Methods differ on when to check. Soul Atlas reduces the month, day and year separately, keeping any master numbers, then adds them. This is the most widely used method, and its working is shown so you can check it.

The three master numbers

  • 11, the intuitive: sensitivity, inspiration and vision, with the cooperative nature of 2.
  • 22, the master builder: big plans made practical, with the structure of 4.
  • 33, the master teacher: compassion and service, with the care of 6. It's the rarest and some numerologists only count it in certain positions.

How they're read

Master numbers are traditionally seen as carrying more potential and more pressure. Many numerologists say people grow into them, experiencing the base number (2, 4 or 6) early in life. They're not a sign of being special or better than anyone else.

Common questions

Is 44 a master number?
Some modern numerologists include 44, but traditional practice uses only 11, 22 and 33, which is what Soul Atlas uses.
Why do I get a different Life Path on another site?
Usually because of the reduction method: adding all digits at once or reducing each part first can give different answers, especially for master numbers.
Can my Birthday Number be a master number?
Yes: the 11th, 29th and 22nd give 11 or 22.
Is numerology scientific?
No. It's a traditional symbolic practice for reflection.
